London, February 18. A gentleman in the Temple, who has
paid his addresses to a young lady in the city, having an
engagement with her, at Drury Lane Play-House, to see the
last new farce of the Wedding Ring acted, the gentleman,
after dressing himself, stepping into a hackney coach at
Temple Bar, called to his servant who attended him to the
coach, gave him a guinea, having no small change about him,
and desired him to step into one of the shops and buy a
wedding ring, and to follow him with it to the aforesaid
lady's house. . . [Servant went to the playhouse] the
servant delivered him the gold ring, . . . to be presented
to his mistress, instead of a farce; which mistake caused no
small entertainment to the rest of the company in the box, .
