London, March 12. By the general applause that the
primitive puppet show met with last night, from a numerous
and brilliant audience, it appears that the town have now
entered into the true spirit and meaning of the facetious
manager. During the performance they were agreeably
surprised with an unexpected stroke of wit: Mrs. Candy is
taken suddenly ill, and another person is introduced to read
her part, when Mr. Foote stepped forward to apologize for
it, and remarked that Mrs. Candy, though indisposed, was
really in the house, and had not mistaken this for an
Oratorio night.
