New York, August 1. The following occasional prologue, by a
gentleman of King's College, to the Tragedy of George
Barnwell, acted last Monday for the benefit of the hospital,
having been much applauded by a very numerous and polite
audience, who attended the performance, cannot fail of
giving pleasure to many readers of sensibility, who had not
an opportunity of hearing it delivered from the stage. The
audience take this opportunity of returning their sincere
thanks to the ingenious author, for the readiness with which
he undertook the composition, upon a very short warning; and
to Mr. Hallam, whose graceful and animated delivery of it,
did ample justice to the poet. The public ought to be
informed, that almost all the comedians, and attendants upon
the theatre, very generously gave up their perquisites upon
that occasion; by which means a very liberal gratuity is
added to the fund of this benevolent institution.
