London, June 11. By a gentleman just arrived from Naples,
we are informed that there has been lately found in
Herculaneum some copies of ancient musick, in tolerable good
preservation. This discovery, it is thought, will throw
lights upon a subject hitherto but little understood by the
moderns; particularly the theatrical musick, which gave laws
at the same time to the declaimer and gesticulator. They
are now at unrolling and recovering the characters, but it
is expected their perfect restoration will take up a long
time.
