TO HER HIGHNESS PRINCESS AUGUSTA, LANDING AT GREENWICH.
[1]
Welcome. fair Princess, to the shore,
Where Saxon chiefs did heretofore
Arrive, Subdue, and Reign.
With guilty swords they made their way
To great domains, and sovereign sway,
While Britons sigh'd in vain.
[2]
But thou, array'd in brighter arms,
Innocent and resistless charms,
Shalt nobler conquests see:
While all the British Empire round,
Virtue and sense, wherever found,
Glad homage pay to thee.
