By a private letter from Charlestown, dated Oct. 13. we have
advice, that they have had a mortal distemper amongst them,
which has carry'd off great numbers of people; insomuch,
that the bell which was almost perpetually tolling for dead
persons, was ordered to be kept silent, for fear of
dejecting the people.-----That there was, however, the
finest prospect in that province of a crop of rice, that
ever was known; and that it was believ'd there would be 100,
000 barrels of it made this year.
