Extract of a letter from Montreal, Dec. 17. There is in
this city a neat grand parade, before a large church, in
which is a set of bells. On the parade stands a holy cross,
by the side of which was placed the bust of a person well
esteemed, and beloved by people of all ranks; but now (like
Milton's Lucifer) alas how fallen! how changed! to the
reverse of what he was. On the night of the 15th instant his
head was severed from his body, and, being fastened by his
side, in the morning was carried to the hospital; but it is
said the best surgeons declare they can do nothing for him,
and that he is absolutely past all cure. [9 lines unrelated
