London. . . The King and Queen, and the young Princes, were
at the entertainment and ball given by the Duke of
Gloucester, on Monday last. Their Majesties danced both
country-dances and cotillions. A young lady of fashion, of
his own age, danced with the Prince of Wales. The King
coming up and speaking to her, at one time, the young Prince
very gallantly observed, "Sir, this young lady belongs to
me; she has been engaged to dance with me for some time
past, your Majesty must not think of robbing me of my
partner." --Another time in the same evening, the Prince
taking Lord March by the hand, and leading him up from the
other end of the room, pleasantly called out to the
musicians, "Come, Gentlemen, play us Lord March's Night-cap,
" There is a country-dance so called.
