London . . . August 1. . . Whilst thousands, and tens of
thousands of industrious poor in this extensive metropolis
rise off their beds every day, without a certainty of being
able to procure the common necessaries of life, a
correspondent (who has frequented the opera all last winter,
and is very minute in his calculations) informs us, that,
having been at the pains to number every step and cut made
by the celebrated Madam Heinell, one night with another, and
then forming an average price from her weekly salary, each
step amounted to no less a sum than seventeen shillings and
sixpence.
