London. . . August 1 . . . The following anecdote, however
singular it may appear, we are informed, is a fact: There
is a Frenchman in this town who gets a genteel livelihood by
teaching lap dogs the minuet, louvre, passapied, &c. In the
course of thus instructing a nobleman's dog, my lord found
means to ingratiate himself with the Frenchman's wife, who
is an agreeable, pleasing brunette. . . [12 lines]
On Saturday morning Mr. Astley, riding master at
Westminster bridge, performing his surprising feats of
horsemanship in the King's riding house. This piece of
activity is brought to great perfection. Odd as it may
appear to our readers, but it is certainly fact, that one of
Mr. Astley's horses dances a polite minuet on his hind legs,
and will, at his command, fetch the bridle and saddle out of
the stable, in order to have it put on his back.
