Newport (Rhode-Island) September 26. . . Last Thursday being
the anniversary of the King's coronation, the cannon at Fort
George were fired; upon which a gentleman observed, that
instead of discharging our guns in token of joy, we ought to
muffle our bells and toll a solemn peal, as there had been
more unjust, cruel and oppressive acts, passed during the
present, than in any preceding reign.
