[Story extracted from Ker's Memoirs; this addressing
extravagance and luxury.]
The old severe and frugal way of living, is now almost
quite out of date in Holland; there is very little to be
seen of that sober modesty in apparel, diet and habitations
as formerly . . . The Hollanders ... have very rich
furniture for their horses, with trappings adorned with
silver-bells; . . . [contrasts with England -- not much
better; on to entertainment, not specified, and food; after
desserts:] and to conclude all, a set of music and maskers
who danced with the young ladies: . . . [on departing the
guests were reminded of modesty and the old morality.]
