The event begins Friday with jam sessions from 5-7pm, and pot luck from 7-8pm. Pointe Noir Cajun Band take the stage from 8-10 for a Cajun Dance. Pointe Noir finds its rhythm deeply rooted in Southwest Louisiana.

On Saturday from 12noon to 6pm, the Ida Mae Specker band, plus guest teachers will run 12 instrumental and singing workshops. Evening events include a dinner break from 6-7pm, a teacher concert from 7-8pm, and a square dance from 8-10pm. Food on Saturday will be provided by Stag and Thistle Food Truck.

Saturday Night the Ida Mae Specker band will lead a Square Dance. Don Stratton will be the caller.

The Ida Mae Specker Band are a Southern Vermont, based quintet featuring Ida Mae Specker, Will Seeders, Henry Clark, Mowgli Gianetti, Marc Edwards with special guest, John Specker. Vermont Public Radio’s Robert Resnik calls the Specker family “Vermont Folk Heroes.” The Speckers have been performing since 2005 and are renowned for “playing a rambunctious version of old-time music that owes as much to punk rock as Appalachia, at least in attitude.” (Seven Days VT).

On Sunday, festivities continue in Cabot Village with extended jam sessions at Harry’s Hardware and the Willey Building Auditorium from 12-4pm.

The Green Mountain Oldtime Workshop Weekend is a collaborative project between Cabot Arts and the Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture. The goal of this project is to revitalize fiddle traditions in Central Vermont.
