Badass Women in Folk Song: 6-Week Virtual Course

February 20, 2025 at 6:30 pm8:30 pm EST

$277 – $500
Saro Lynch-Thomason

Badass Women in Folk Song is a 6-week class that teaches a one-of-a-kind collection of ballads and songs about witches, warriors and triumphant women from Scotland, England and Appalachia. As we’re painfully aware right now, women, femmes, trans folks and so many others are dealing with a rise in sexism and discrimination. Badass Women in Folksong is intended to be a balm for what our society is facing in this moment. Singing has alway been a vital source of self-expression, but also a strategy to share tactics for survival, and these old songs have much to teach us.

In this 6-week class, participants will nestle into winter time and gather round the hearth to:

  • Explore songs on women’s roles as witches, warriors, survivors and justice-seekers.
  • Settle into the good feelings of “slow time” to learn the ancient art of ballad singing
  • Learn historic tactics for bodily autonomy, freedom, sexual choice and collective liberation
  • Create new songs inspired by tradition

This course begins on Thursday, January 16th and ends on Friday, February 21st. See the link below for full schedule details.
