Celebration of Spring Ball

This year, 2026, marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned choreographer and master teacher Fried de Metz Herman. How should such a moment, so significant in the history of English country dancing, be celebrated? One obvious answer is the Celebration of Spring Ball presented this coming March 21 by the Country Dancers of Westchester (CDW), the dance group that Fried co-founded in 1974 and where she taught for decades until some years before her death in January 2010.
Four teachers who worked with Fried—Dorothy Cummings, Orly Krasner, Judi Rivkin, and Paul Ross—will lead the festivities. The band A Joyful Noise, whose members, Barbara Greenberg, Daniel Beerbohm, and Kathy Talvitie, collaborated with Fried on countless occasions, not least of which were her annual Fried-for-All weekends in Lenox, MA, will provide the glorious music.
Country Dances of Westchester is pleased to announce that reprints of both Potters’ Porch—think The Archbishop, Astoria Lass, Face the Music, and Measured Obsession, among others—and Fringe Benefits—Carpe Diem, Golden Alexanders, The Introduction, Mylecharane, and more—will be available for sale at the March 21st Ball!
